Pharoahe Monch – Broken Again (music video)

Pharoahe Monch has been a top tier emcee for over twenty years now. He’s practically “vocally unmatched,” and he’s been that way since he was with Organized Konfusion. Listen to a track like “Bring It On” to hear what I mean.

And he’s killing it today as much as he was back then – more so, even. In fact, I’d say PTSD is his greatest album. Which is saying a lot, because Monch has an impressive catalog. This is a video for the song “Broken Again”, a beautiful, haunting song from PTSD about heroin addiction. Like much of his work, the beat has a rock and roll foundation. When the song starts, it almost sounds like the bass player is making mistakes, but the rhythm is just a little off kilter. And it’s awesome.

Tonight, I’m going to see Pharoahe Monch at Bell’s Brewery in Kalamazoo, MI. It’s the only date I’ve seen for him in the states recently, which is tragic. Monch should be filling theaters from coast to coast. He’s one of the greatest emcees in the history of hip hop.
