Squeeze – Tempted (music video)

“Tempted” and “Black Coffee In Bed” are two Squeeze songs that loom large in my memories of early MTV. Both videos, as I remember, got a lot of airplay. I loved them both, and still do. “Tempted” is one of the rare occasions where Paul Carrack, the keyboardist, sang lead – or at least, shared the duties with Glenn Tilbrook. It was the second single off their fourth album, East Side Story, which was produced by Elvis Costello. In fact, it’s Costello who trades lines with Tilbrook in the second verse, not Chris Difford, who appears to be singing Costello’s lines in the video. I remember being fascinated by the vocal trade offs when I was a kid.
