Dr. Dre feat. Snoop Dogg – Deep Cover (music video)

There’s a lot of excitement out there about Dr. Dre’s new Compton album. I downloaded it today, and I’m looking forward to giving it a listen this afternoon. Here’s something interesting, though: no music videos for any of the songs on YouTube. That’s because it’s an Apple music “exclusive”, which I’m not particularly a fan of – the exclusive part. I want a CD version of this, and you can’t get that (yet), either.

But Dre fans in need of a video fix need not worry. The Tubes have plenty of other Dr. Dre videos to offer. Like this one. “Deep Cover”, from the soundtrack for the Laurence Fishburne movie of the same name. Man, I loved that movie when I was a kid. It seemed so edgy, and dark. And it had this amazing title track by Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, in which they wholeheartedly take on the role of hardcore, violent drug dealers. What drives the song is the bass line – a sliver of a sample that keeps the song in overdrive right up until the last moment.  And just look how young Snoop Dogg looks! Was he even 21 yet? I don’t think so… Already – and still – dominating the industry.
