Bob Weir & Rob Wasserman – The Winners (Live on Letterman in 1991)

The late 80s and early 90s were full of the sounds of Rob Wasserman on bass. Bobby was touring with him, and those shows were circulating among tapers. He was all over the place on Lou Reed’s 1992 album Magic & Loss. He released his own record, with people like Jerry Garcia and Edie Brickell sitting in with Wasserman.

And at some point in 1991, Weir and Wasserman ended up on Letterman. I don’t remember this, but I wasn’t watching a lot of TV at that time – I was in college. But someone uploaded it to the YouTubes, so people all over the world can enjoy it. “The Winners” uses a Rudyard Kipling poem as the lyrics. Bobby played it a lot with Wasserman at this time, but I don’t know how long it survived in Bobby’s solo catalog. He doesn’t play it anymore. So enjoy this little nugget of Grateful Dead musical history.
