Howlin’ Wolf – Smokestack Lightning (Live in 1964)

Chester Arthur Burnett – known to most of us as Howlin’ Wolf – was born 105 years ago today. Before he died in 1976, he was one of the most influential blues men alive, and continues to reign as one of the top blues men of all time. He gave us songs like “Spoonful”, “Back Door Man”, and this one, “Smokestack Lightning”. Here he is playing it live at the American Folk Blues Festival in 1964. Listen to that voice! That deep throated rumble set him apart.
