Gov’t Mule with Jackie Greene – Crime In The City (Live In 2014)

This past Friday – Halloween – I drove down to Cincinnati to see Gov’t Mule play at the Taft Theatre. It was Mule-O-Ween. Jackie Greene was joining the band for a set of Neil Young tunes. They were calling it Young Mule. As a lifelong Neil freak, how could I not go?

And it was an amazing show. The Neil set was the longest set I’ve ever heard them play. They did a lot of deep cuts, but didn’t dip into anything post Sleeps With Angels (I don’t think, anyway…). They did a lot of the songs you’d expect, too – “Cowgirl In The Sand”, “Heart Of Gold”, for example. “Crime In The City” was one of the deep cuts. It’s from 1989’s Freedom. Warren Haynes and Jackie Greene share the vocals on this one, and Danny Louis (keys) plays a trombone solo.
