David Bowie – Five Years (Live on The Old Grey Whistle Test in 1972)

“Five Years” leads off Bowie’s 1972 masterwork The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. Conceptually, the song is about the five years humanity has left before some global catastrophe. Lyrically, it’s stands with the best of Bowie’s work. One of my favorite verses:

I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour / Drinking milkshakes cold and long / Smiling and waving and looking so fine / Don’t think you knew you were in this song
