Public Enemy – By The Time I Get To Arizona (music video)

“By The Time I Get To Arizona” is from the 1991 Public Enemy album Apocalypse 91. The song is about the state’s refusal to move forward with formal recognition of Martin Luther King Day. In 1992 – less than a year after Apocalypse 91 was released – Arizona voters made MLK Day a state holiday. That left only New Hampshire, who finally followed Arizona and the rest of the nation in 1999 by making Martin Luther King’s birthday a state holiday.

My son doesn’t have school on Martin Luther King Day. I don’t get the day off from work, though, so I’m working from home today.
