Heavy Soul: Why haven’t I been listening to Paul Weller all these years?
I’m a bit ashamed to admit it, but the brilliance of Paul Weller is a new experience for me. I mean, it’s actually great to discover, for myself, an artist whose work I admire who also happens to have a rich body of work behind him. Which Paul Weller has.
This song – “Heavy Soul” – is the title track from the album of the same name. Heavy Soul has the song broken into two parts, though, at different points in the song sequencing. Which is kind of weird, but I like it.
If you think you don’t know Paul Weller, you would probably recognize some of the songs he did with his band The Jam back in the day. Particularly “A Town Called Malice”. Follow the jump to see a video of that song, plus a video of him doing “What’s Going On” in some Greek ruins or something. All hail the YouTubes!
You recognize that one, right? Motown, Jamified. What’s Going On, of course, is a Marvin Gaye and Motown classic.
I don’t know what went into putting this together, but I love the location.
