Beastie Boys – Ch-Check It Out (Live on Letterman in 2004)

The Beastie Boys had a number of stand out appearances on Late Night with David Letterman. This is one of them. It’s 2004. To The 5 Boroughs is released, and the hiatus is off. “Ch-Check It Out” is the first single off the record, and the Beastie Boys give this amazing performance on Letterman, a loosely choreographed […]

Weezer – Say It Ain’t So (Live on Letterman in 1995)

Dave always had great musical guests. Here’s Weezer doing “Say It Ain’t So” on Letterman in 1995. Rivers Cuomo plays all the lead licks, which I hadn’t realized. I thought it was the other guy doing lead, but Rivers does it all! He wrote it, sings it, and plays lead. We posted the original video for the […]

Ben Harper – Rock and Roll Is Free (Live on Letterman in 2011)

“Rock and Roll is Free” popped up on shuffle when I was working out earlier, and I can’t get it out of my head now. It’s a Beatles feeling rocker from Ben Harper’s 2011 album Give Till It’s Gone. It was the lead single off the album, and has a cool animated lyrics video. This […]

Lenny Kravitz – Get Back (Live on Letterman in 2014)

As part of Beatles tribute week on Letterman, Lenny Kravitz was on the show to perform “Get Back”. It’s a pretty spot on cover – the lead guitar player does George Harrison’s lead, and Paul Shaffer does Billy Preston’s solo almost note for note. It’s a pretty gratifying four minutes of musical tribute.

White Denim – Pretty Green (Live on Letterman in 2013)

This Austin band has always impressed me. They just released a new album – Corsicana Lemonade – and “Pretty Green” is the first single. Here they are performing it on Letterman.

Lou Reed – Busload of Faith (Live on Letterman in 1989)

I’ve been trolling the Tubes for Lou Reed videos as part of my mourning process. I’ve stumbled across a couple of gems along the way. Here’s an example. Lou Reed with Paul Schaffer and his band, with Buddy Guy and James Cotton. And look at those mullets! The guitar player in Letterman’s band and Lou? […]
